Wear of pistons and piston rings can usually be found at emergence of signs of the raised consumption of oil and a low compression that is sometimes connected with wear of cylinders.

Other sign of wear of the piston is the knock of the piston similar to noise from a bent shaft which needs to be distinguished from knock of bearings. It is possible to listen to it accurately on small turns of the engine in the absence of loading (for example, in the idling mode), it is heard much less at increase of turns of the engine. Wear of the piston usually arises around a skirt or the lower end face of the piston.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To remove in turn the top sealing ring, an average sealing ring and an oil scraper ring. For removal of rings to insert under a ring thin steel plates (it is possible probes) in several places evenly on perimeter of the piston and on plates to shift a piston ring from the piston.
2. To check gap size in the lock of rings. It is for this purpose consecutive to insert all rings from the top party into a working sleeve of the cylinder. The turned piston to push a ring down in the cylinder on depth of 15 mm and to measure by the probe a gap in the ring lock. Gaps in the lock of a ring are not regulated, and at increase in a gap over admissible the ring is subject to replacement.

4. For extraction and installation of piston fingers it is necessary to use the special equipment, namely, a guide and an arm. On a finger before a press fitting to install the directing adaptation. It is not necessary to fix, however, a finger on a shaft to a press fitting, it is necessary to leave a gap about 0,1 mm.
5. On engines with 16 valves at installation of the piston and a rod to provide their correct mutual situation (and – a tag on the basis of a rod).
