9.4. Replacement of covers of hinges of equal angular speeds

GENERAL INFORMATION

EXTERNAL HINGE

The plastic rings located on outer side of a protective cover


Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To remove a power shaft.
Models with the engine 1,4 liters
2. To remove the internal hinge from a power shaft.
3. To fix a power shaft in a vice with soft sponges and to remove collars of fastening of a cover. To shift a protective cover down a shaft.
4. Using solvent to clear the external hinge and to dry it.
5. To check details of the external hinge for wear. If when checking the hinge defects are found, then it is necessary to replace a power shaft entirely.
6. Using an emery paper, to clear a power shaft of a rust and sharp edges which can damage a protective cover at its installation. To pull over a shaft a protective cover of the external hinge before installation of a cover in a flute.
7. To grease a working part of the external hinge.
8. To remove an external ledge of a protective cover, for alignment of pressure of air under a cover.
9. To fix a protective cover by a big collar.
10. To install the internal hinge on a power shaft.
Other models
11. To fix a power shaft in a vice with soft sponges and to remove collars of fastening of a cover.
12. To shift a protective cover on a shaft. To remove lubricant from the hinge.
13. Using the hammer or a soft drift sharply to strike the hinge and to remove the hinge from a shaft.
14. To remove a lock ring from a flute of a power shaft. At installation of the CV JOINT it is necessary to use a new lock ring.
15. To remove a protective cover of the external hinge and where it is established, the plastic plug of fastening of the internal end of a cover.
16. Using the corresponding solvent to clear the CV JOINT and to dry up it. To examine the hinge.
17. To check the course of balls of the hinge, and also balls for existence of damages.
18. To check paths on which hinge balls on an internal and external part of the hinge move.
19. If there is a wear of any detail of the hinge it is necessary to replace the hinge completely. If the hinge in satisfactory condition, then it is necessary to use a repair set of details consisting of a new protective cover, a lock ring, collars and lubricant of the hinge.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To pull inside of a protective cover over a shaft (it is shown by an arrow).
2. To install the internal end of a protective cover in a flute of a power shaft or on the plastic plug (if it is used).
3. To establish a new lock ring in a flute on the end of a power shaft.
4. To combine vents of the hinge and a power shaft and to install the hinge on a power shaft before fixing by its lock ring.
5. To fill the hinge with lubricant and to establish a protective cover in a hinge flute.
6. To fix a protective cover by collars, using a hook and flat-nose pliers.
7. To bend the acting end of a collar and to cut off its excess part.
8. To curtail the end of a collar near a bracket.
9. To press a bracket to a collar.
10. To raise the internal end of a protective cover for alignment of pressure of air under a cover, then to fix by a collar.
11. To check smoothness of turn of the CV JOINT and to install a power shaft on the car.

INTERNAL HINGE

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To remove a power shaft from the car.
Models with the engine 1,4 liters
2. To fix a power shaft in a vice with soft sponges and to remove collars of fastening of a cover of the internal hinge.
3. After release of a protective cover of the hinge to extend an external part of the hinge from a cover, to remove a spring and a head of axial pressure from the end of a shaft. To remove a round ring from outer side of an external part of the hinge.
4. To turn off a protective cover back and to remove lubricant from the hinge. If rollers of the hinge are not fixed by lock rings, to fix them by an adhesive tape.
5. Using paint or the hammer and a core, to apply combination tags on the hinge and a power shaft. To remove a lock ring of fastening of the hinge to a power shaft.
6. Using a stripper, to remove the hinge from a power shaft. Captures of a stripper to have on a back part of the hinge.
7. To remove a protective cover from a power shaft, shifting it on a shaft.
8. Using the corresponding solvent to clear the CV JOINT and to dry up it, at the same time not to erase a combination tag. To examine the hinge.
9. To check hinge details for wear. Basic rollers have to rotate smoothly and evenly.
10. To roll up vents on the end of a power shaft an adhesive tape and to pull a new protective cover over a power shaft.
11. To remove an adhesive tape from the end of a power shaft, to combine earlier made tags and using the hammer and a soft drift, to establish an internal part of the hinge on a shaft.
12. To fix an internal part of the hinge on a shaft by a lock ring, having provided the correct arrangement of a lock ring in a flute of a power shaft.
13. To grease a working part of the internal hinge. To establish a protective cover on an internal part of the hinge.
14. To establish a round ring, a spring and a head of axial pressure upon an external part of the internal hinge.
15. To establish an external part of the internal hinge and to arrange a head of axial pressure against the end of a power shaft. To pull an external part of the internal hinge over a shaft, squeezing a spring and to arrange it in a protective cover.
16. To raise an inner edge of a protective cover for alignment of pressure of air under a cover with atmospheric pressure. To fix a protective cover by a big collar.
17. To check smoothness of turn of the CV JOINT and to install a power shaft on the car.

18. To remove a power shaft.
19. To fix a power shaft in a vice with soft sponges and to remove collars of fastening of a cover of the internal hinge.
20. After release of a protective cover of the hinge to extend an external part of the hinge from a cover and to remove a spring and a head of axial pressure from the end of a shaft. To remove a round ring from outer side of an external part of the hinge.

25. To remove collars of fastening of a protective cover (the drawing at the left) and to remove a protective cover, shifting it on a shaft (the drawing on the right).
26. To take the plastic plug from a cover.
27. Using solvent, to clear the hinge and to dry it. To check hinge details for wear. Basic rollers have to rotate smoothly and evenly.
28. If when checking the internal hinge defects are found, then it is necessary to replace a power shaft entirely.
29. To grease a working part of the internal hinge.
