12.9. Back brake drum

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To lift a back part of the car and to record on supports.
2. To remove the corresponding back wheel.
3. To unscrew the screws fixing the brake drum to a nave.
4. To check that the emergency brake is completely released and to remove the brake drum from the car.
5. The drum can badly be removed from a nave in connection with corrosion of a nave or because it is kept by brake shoes.
6. In the first case for removal of a drum from a nave to knock on drum perimeter with the plastic hammer or a wooden kiyanka.
7. In the second case to check that the emergency brake is completely released and to perform the following operations.
8. To completely weaken the regulator of a cable of the emergency brake to receive the maximum deflection in a cable.
9. To remove a stopper from a back part of a brake board (the stopper is usually painted in blue color) and, using the screw-driver to move the lever of the emergency brake to a brake shoe against the stop (E – the provision of a reference point of a stop of the lever of the emergency brake).
10. Release the lever of the emergency brake.
11. It will allow to take away brake shoes from the brake drum therefore the drum will easily be removed from a nave.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Being careful to clear the internal surface of the brake drum of brake dust and dirt.
2. To clear the external surface of the brake drum and to check for obvious signs of wear or damage, existence of cracks around openings under bolts of fastening of a wheel. If necessary to replace a drum.
3. To check an internal part of the brake drum. Insignificant development of a drum from action of blocks is the normal phenomenon.
4. To measure the internal working surface of the reel in several places. To compare results of the received measurements.
5. If results differ from each other, so the drum has the oval form.
6. If the measured maximum size of internal diameter of a drum is in admissible limits, then it needs to be pereshlifovat.
7. If wear of a drum exceeds admissible limits, it is necessary to replace brake drums on both back wheels.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. At installation of the new brake drum to use solvent for removal from it a protective film.
2. If necessary, to reduce length of an adjusting level of brake shoes, rotating an adjusting wheel of a level.
3. To check that the lever of the emergency brake is installed opposite to edge of a brake shoe and that the working surfaces of the brake drum and a nave pure and dry.
4. To install the brake drum on a nave and to fix by screws, tightening them the required moment.
5. Several times to press a brake pedal to put the mechanism of adjustment of a gap of brake shoes in action.
6. To adjust a cable of the emergency brake.
7. To establish a wheel and to lower the car.
