3.1.2.1.2. Check and adjustment of a gap of valves

GENERAL INFORMATION

The gap of valves should be regulated only in case of detection of the wrong adjustment, replacement or grinding in of valves, replacement of pushers or the camshaft.

MODELS 1905 of cm3 And 1998 cm3 C 16 VALVES

Models 1905 of cm3 and 1998 cm3 with 16 valves have automatic adjustment of gaps of valves.

OTHER MODELS

The gap of valves is checked by the probe between a cam and a pusher.

Before check of a gap the engine at an open cowl has to cool down at least 2 hours.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To uncover a head of the block of cylinders.
2. To draw the scheme of the engine on paper. To show position of each valve together with the specified valvate gap. Above each valve to draw two lines for record (1) of the valid gap and (2) sizes of the required adjustment.
3. To turn a bent shaft before full closing of the inlet valve of the cylinder No. 1 (from a flywheel), i.e. the cam of the camshaft has to be directed up. To measure by the probe a gap between a cam and a pusher and to write down it on the line 1.
4. To repeat measurement for other seven valves, turning a bent shaft as required so that the considered cam was always directed up.
5. To calculate a difference between each measured gap and a necessary gap and to write down it on the line 2.
6. If the measured gap does not correspond to necessary, it is necessary to make adjustment.

Working gap of valves (cold engine):

 – inlet valve: 0,20 mm;
 – final valve: 0,40 mm;
 – admission: ±0,05 mm.

Adjustment

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To check a gap of valves according to the above described method and to write down the measured sizes of gaps.
2. To take off a driving belt of the camshaft.
3. To remove an oil pipeline of lubricant of bearings of the camshaft, the distributor, a bolt of fastening of the bearing No. 1 and a flange of the camshaft.
4. To insert a steel special core with a diameter of 10 mm (length of 70 mm) a pulley of the camshaft and to unscrew a bolt of fastening of this pulley.
5. To unscrew a bolt under a bracket of fastening of the pipeline of cooling liquid (liquid from the cooling system should not be merged) and to take a sheet casing.
6. One after another to unscrew nuts of fastening of covers of bearings of the camshaft.
7. To separate a cover No. 1 (about the distributor) from its side consolidation and to remove other covers (covers No. 2 and 4 are designated).
8. To take the camshaft on the right side.
9. To take pushers and to establish them in a row on an order (the pusher is shown by an arrow).
10. To remove adjusting plates and to measure their thickness.
11. To determine the necessary thickness of adjusting plates:
      – if the measured size of a gap is too small, then it is necessary to establish a plate of smaller thickness, at a size which is written down on the line 2;
      – if the measured gap size too big, then it is necessary to establish a plate of bigger thickness, at a size which is written down on the line 2.
12. To draw in the drawing three more lines below each valve.
13. To apply the measured thickness of plates which were removed from the engine on lines (4), then to add or subtract a difference with the line (2) to receive the necessary thickness of plates, and to write down on the line (5).
Prevention

After replacement of one of details of system of gas distribution or after grinding in of valves it is necessary to establish 8 adjusting plates by thickness, at least, of 2,15 mm.


14. To establish pushers with plates of necessary thickness.
15. To install the camshaft and covers of bearings. It is necessary to observe an installation order. To tighten covers of bearings the moment of 15 Nanometers.
16. To turn the camshaft by means of a bolt of a pulley and to check a gap of valves. In case of detection of the wrong gap adjustment needs to be repeated.
17. To check whether there is a bent shaft in the provision of installation of system of gas distribution.
18. To replace side consolidation of a cover of the bearing No. 1, to grease with the pressurizing paste two surfaces of consolidation and the lower connection.
19. To establish a flange of fastening of the camshaft.
20. To establish new consolidation of the camshaft from the drive (adaptation 7.0153 E together with a bolt and laying of a pulley).
21. To establish a sheet casing without tightening of fasteners.
22. To center a casing by means of a core with a diameter of 10 mm.
23. To establish a pulley of the camshaft and to insert a core of installation of system of gas distribution into the appropriate place.
24. To tighten a bolt of fastening of a pulley the moment of 80 Nanometers.
25. To screw in bolts of fastening of a casing.
26. To install the channel of lubricant of bearings of the camshaft, the distributor, a cover of a head of the block of cylinders and to connect wires.
27. To establish a driving belt of the camshaft.
28. To adjust an ignition advancing corner.
