Chart of the choice of inserts On early engines the top and lower inserts had identical thickness and only two sizes of inserts were available: the standard size for use with a standard bent shaft and a set of inserts of the increased size for installation on a repolished bent shaft.

On the latest engines new inserts can be chosen, using signs on the block of cylinders. In the absence of tags inserts can be picked up only by measurement of a working gap.
